Which USDT Network to Choose: TRC20, ERC20, BEP20, TON, and Solana

Р Редакция HASchange 8 July 2026 5 мин чтения

USDT exists not on one network but on several — TRC20 (TRON), ERC20 (Ethereum), BEP20 (BNB Chain), TON, and Solana. The token itself is worth the same on all of them (about a dollar), but the transfer fee and speed differ. For most everyday transfers and cash exchange, TRC20 (TRON) is the most cost-effective — low fee and high speed. But one rule matters above all: send USDT on the network the recipient supports.

Why USDT has several networks

USDT is a token, and tokens are issued on top of existing blockchains. Tether issued USDT on several networks at once so users could choose what’s most convenient and cheapest for them. So “USDT on TRC20” and “USDT on ERC20” are the same token by value — it just travels different roads with different toll costs.

Comparison of USDT networks

Network (standard) Fee Speed When to choose
TRON (TRC20) low (~1–2 USDT) fast (~a minute) Universal choice for transfers and cash exchange
Ethereum (ERC20) high (gas, depends on load) medium Working with Ethereum-based exchanges and DeFi
BNB Chain (BEP20) very low (cents) fast Binance ecosystem
TON low very fast Transfers via Telegram wallets
Solana (SPL) very low very fast Solana ecosystem

Exact fee figures move with network load, but the ratio is stable: ERC20 is usually the most expensive by fee, while TRC20, BEP20, TON, and Solana are noticeably cheaper.

Which network to choose in different situations

For exchanging USDT for cash

TRC20 (TRON) is usually optimal: low fee, fast confirmation, and support by almost every exchanger. More on the procedure itself in the article “How to exchange USDT for cash rubles”.

For transfers to an exchange or wallet

Check which networks the recipient supports and pick the cheapest among them. If an exchange accepts both TRC20 and ERC20, choose TRC20 to avoid overpaying for gas.

For transfers via Telegram

The TON network is convenient — fast and cheap, with wallets integrated right into the messenger (see the TON wallet guide).

For DeFi on Ethereum

Here you specifically need ERC20, because the applications run on the Ethereum network. Be ready for a higher fee in the form of gas — more in the guide “Ethereum (ETH): what it is and how it works”.

The key rule: sender’s network = recipient’s network

This is the most important point. Before sending, make sure the network you’re sending USDT from matches the network the recipient expects. Addresses on different networks can look different (for example, a TRON address starts with “T”), and sending to the wrong network is the most common cause of lost funds.

What happens if you send USDT on the wrong network

In most cases the funds won’t reach the recipient and may be lost irreversibly, because the recipient has no access to an address on a foreign network. Sometimes coins can be recovered (for example, if the recipient holds keys to the address on both networks), but you shouldn’t count on it. So always verify the network before sending — a blockchain transaction cannot be canceled.

Fees: what to look at

  • Network fee — paid by the sender. On TRON it’s about 1–2 USDT, on Ethereum noticeably more due to gas, and on BEP20, TON, and Solana it’s minimal.
  • Network congestion — at peak times fees (especially on Ethereum) rise.
  • Recipient’s conditions — an exchange or exchanger may not support all networks; check in advance.

Exchange USDT on any network

HASchange accepts USDT on the TRC20, ERC20, BEP20, and TON networks and exchanges it for cash rubles, dollars, and euros at offices in several Russian cities. The final rate is set at the moment of the deal at the current market rate, and an AML check is performed beforehand. Minimum amount — from 200,000 RUB or equivalent.

Frequently asked questions

Which USDT network is the cheapest?
By fee, the most cost-effective are BEP20, TON, and Solana, as well as TRC20. The most expensive is usually ERC20 due to Ethereum gas.

Which USDT network should I choose for cash exchange?
Usually TRC20 (TRON): low fee, fast confirmation, and support by almost every exchanger.

Does the price of USDT differ across networks?
No, the token itself is worth the same (about a dollar) on all networks. Only the fee and transfer speed differ.

Can I send USDT from TRC20 to an ERC20 address?
No. These are different networks, and such a transfer will lead to lost funds. Send only on the network the recipient supports.

How do I know which network my USDT is on?
It’s shown in your wallet or on the exchange when you sеlect the asset and network. If in doubt, check before sending.

Which USDT networks can I exchange at HASchange?
TRC20, ERC20, BEP20, and TON. The network is specified when you submit a request.
